BensTek Company was founded in the year 2000 with the goal of developing and marketing consumer products to make life easier.  The Bucket O Lights decorative lights storage container was quickly recognized as the superior solution for storing decorative strings of lights and their accessories.

In the past year, Bucket O Lights has undergone a progressive evolution of revisions and enhancements.  Bucket O Lights is widely acknowledged as the most versatile decorative light storage container of its kind.

BensTek is constantly evolving to meet demands of the consumer and continues to explore new ways to help make life easier.

Bucket O Lights Story

Alan Benson is always looking for ways to make everyday life easier.  In December 1992, after moving to Galt and buying his first home, Alan developed a system for storing and organizing his Christmas lights.  He had remembered as a child putting up his Fathers Christmas lights, and what a hassle it was.  His Father stored the lights in paper bags and Alan and his brother Bill were given the chore of spending countless hours untangling the lights before hanging them up.

In Christmas of 1999, Alan got sick and Marta, Alan’s wife, proceeded to hang the lights using the storage container for the first time.  As she was hanging the lights, she realized how easily they came out tangle free.  At the same time a neighbor who was walking buy to get his mail made the comment, “I didn’t know they sold those by the bucket”.  Marta laughed and continued hanging the lights.  A few minutes later, it hit her; she walked in the house, looked at Alan, and said, “Bucket O Lights”.  Within a week, they started pursuing the idea.

Alan and Marta spent the first six-months of the year 2000 enhancing, patenting, and trademarking the product Bucket O Lights.

In August 2000, manufacturing of Bucket O Lights began.  The assembly process was done in Alan and Marta’s garage.  A complete assembly line was developed where they initially assembled and stored 1000 storage containers.

In October 2000, Bucket O Lights made its presence in the retail market.  In November 2000, they were debuted at the Sacramento Gift and Gourmet Show in Sacramento, California, where the response from the public was overwhelming.  In December 2000, the storage containers debuted on the Internet at www.bucketolights.com, a web site developed by Alan and Marta.
